Madrone Gauntlet
By Nickolas Abbott
If someone asks you to make a tool to draw with, the first thing that has to be addressed is the presence of someone’s hand in any art that they do. This prevalence is addressed within this project, comprised of Madrone wood, metal “I hooks,” elastic bands, and binding wire, this gauntlet allows any artistic implement to be used just as efficiently as holding it, without needing to even touch the implement itself. This project was done in conjunction with RISD’s portfolio requirement of creating a drawing with a homemade tool that manipulates a fixable medium. The included portrait was done with the Madrone Gauntlet.
